Key Landscaping Trends in 2021

There is not doubt that many of us spent more time in our homes and backyards in the year that was 2020.

So 2021 is taking advantage of that trend and making sure that your outdoor area is the best it can be with a focus on usability.

Bring the inside, outside

Creating flow between your inside and outdoor space is a great way to create the illusion of an even bigger space within your home. Living in Perth generally means you love being outside so creating a link between the two spaces is a must. We commonly see full height sliding or folding glass panels, allowing you to completely open up your interior to your exterior living spaces.

One thing to note – if your property has multiple levels, then be sure to use retaining walls to create flat, usable areas.  It’s very, very difficult to create that inside-out feel when you’re on a slope…

Undercover areas – patios, alfresco’s and more

An extension of the trend above is making sure that you can actually use that outdoor space.  For the most part, we are exceptionally lucky here in Perth that we have ~9 months of amazing weather each year.  However we always want more!  So to cater for the autumn/winter months, we’re seeing lots of all-weather, undercover entertainment spaces pop up.  That way, you can comfortably light the BBQ and have friends over 12 months of the year – rain, hail or shine!

Effortless gardening

Everyone is busy enough as it is so working in the garden, rather than relaxing outside might not be your cup of tea.

There’s a number of solutions to this but the current trend is contemporary, minimalist ‘hardscapes’ (think decking and paving) that turn your outdoor area into an entertaining oasis!

To add some depth, we’re seeing a lot of level changes (think retaining walls) so it’s not just one flat concrete jungle.

With owners moving away from lawn, we’re seeing lots of small raised garden beds so you can have a productive and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space too.

If you need some retaining to make the most of your outdoor space, then get in touch with us at Bradford Retaining – we’re here to answer any questions you might have.
